Keeping the wearer dry is a key component of most clothing. Despite the human body’s high water content, comfort and social convention prevents us from spending too long drenched. Following the peaceful nine months we all enjoyed in the amniotic sac, some degree of submersion is only natural. It’s the interplay between nature and the urban – and how water acts as a conduit – that Ganryu focuses on in his SS19 collection. Water resistance features repeatedly, from neoprene pockets to coated denim, highlighting the materials and constructs we use to protect ourselves. T-shirts take almost the opposite role: emblazoned with WATER or with a removable patch showing how clothing can be permeable and open to the elements.
